10 Black Dots by Donald Crews

This book focuses on counting on from 1 to 10. Each time the black dot(s) are used in a different way.
When we finish the book reading, I give each child 10 black dots and a large sheet of manilla paper. The children are given time to use their black dots in way that was not shown in the book. They then write a sentence (using inventive spelling) telling how they used their dots. We share our pictures and then make a class book for our book corner.
