All things small...
I don't know if it's because I have recently returned from 5 weeks with my daughter and my new little grandson !!! but I seem to be focusing on all things little these days.
If not overused, most children like mini-books. They help children build essential reading skills by giving them practice reading and writing words from different word families and encourage them to become successful, independent, and fluent readers.

Keeping in the theme of small and cute, there are many commercially made sets of tiny beginning reading books available and I really like the, "Now I'm Reading" series put out by Innovative Kids.
Unlike many beginner books that are either all sight words or all phonics (with boring stories made of a few sounds), these books use a balanced literacy approach. The illustrations are great and the stories funny. If you are not already familiar with them,

Now I'm off to shop for board books for you know who!
