Teach a Green Halloween

I came across a great site that is chock full of ideas for teaching a Green Halloween. Halloween becomes a springboard for children to learn how to improve their environment.

New Pages!

This is the season for jack o'lanterns, pumpkin muffins, and pumpkin seeds ready for toasting. Dry some seeds before toasting to glue into science books and some for planting next spring.

I have added three new pages that can be taught as an Autumn theme or incorporated into a Halloween theme. The pages are not scary as I know many young children are disturbed by frightening Halloween imagery.

The new pages are:
1. Autumn pumpkin theme - teach science and math with pumpkins!
2. Pumpkin Halloween Bulletin Board - learn how to incorporate all your pumpkin theme activities to build a wonderful bulletin board.
3. Halloween pumpkin worksheets - make a pumpkin book to record all the pumpkin science and math observations and also a "Parts of a Pumpkin Plant" booklet. Bonus - 2 free pumpkin worksheets.

Fun Autumn ABCs Activity

Read "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by by Bill Martin Jr., John Archambault, and Lois Ehlert, then have students make an autumn Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree. My students loved making the Autumn trees by first painting a trunk and branches on large paper. The next day they use letter sponge stamps and red, yellow, and orange paint to cover their trees with ABC Autumn leaves.

Thank you to all who continue to write me and share student successes, ask questions, or comment on the site.

Happy teaching,
from Patricia kindergarten-lessons.com
