REMEMBRANCE DAY ACTIVITIES - Kindergarten Lessons

Canadians wear a poppy to honour those in uniform who have served Canada’s military. They pause for one minute of silence at 11:00 a.m. on November 11 to honour those who served and died in times of war, military conflict and peace and also those who have died in service.

Remembrance Day Bookmarks

Give each student a Remembrance Day bookmark to color to help them remember to honour those who have served in the military.

Photocopy enough sheets of bookmarks on to lightweight card for all students. Cut down the dotted lines, distribute to students for coloring.

Alternative - Give children blank bookmarks and have them design their own.

Remembrance Day Wreath Counting Activity

Give each child 4 red circle stickers, one black circle sticker and a small square of card about 2 inches square.
Each child makes a poppy by sticking their circles on to the square of card (see image)
Each child tapes his/her poppy onto a large donut shaped piece of card to resemble a wreath.
Children count red stickers as a group with teacher.
Record number.
Count black circles and record.
Optional - before counting have children estimate how many red and black circles they think it took to make the wreath
