Remembrance Day for Kids
Explaining Remembrance Day to kids can be a challenge.
This apple stamp poppy art lesson is a good follow up for after you have read a few books to your students to help thme understand the history of Remembrance and Veteran's Day, why they are observed, and why we honor veterans by flying flags, attending parades, buying poppies, and visiting hospitals.
Remembrance Day Apple Print Poppies
Prep &Materials
- Carefully cut an apple in half as straight as possible
- Scoop out inside star with a small spoon
- Provide a flat tray of a few different shades of red paint
- Provide a pot of black paint and a small spoon
- Provide a nonspill container and brush of green paint
- White paper
- Black construction paper for display
Procedure
- Dip the half apple in the red paint and swirl it around, then stamp the circular poppy shapes on the white paper
- Paint stems with a brush
- Drop black paint into the center of each poppy
- Cut out poppies when dry
- Display on black construction paper for impact
