Interlocking Foam Mat Carpets
Learning carpets such as interlocking classroom mats are great for teaching academic concepts. Carpets made of individual interlocking squares also provide a cushion to hard floor surfaces in playrooms, classrooms, daycares and more.
Interlocking mats pros:
- provides a cushioned surface, easy on the knees and absorbs shock
- makes play areas quieter play as it muffles sounds colorful
- washable
- usually cheaper than other carpets
Interlocking mats cons:
- Some mats are thinner, only 1/2" thick instead of 5/8th"
- Spills may be tricky to clean if liquids drip between joins
- Letters that pop out may distract some children

Educational play carpets like this one come with forty-eight multi-color tiles. Each tile measures 12" x 12" and is 3/8" thick. Borders are included.
Use the squares to practice counting or rearrange the interlocking mats into color groups. Use for math activities such as, "2 yellow and 2 green equal how many squares all together?" or "Four of each color equals how many blocks all together?" Use for classification activities - "Children with shiny rocks, place them on the yellow squares, children with rocks that are not shiny, place them on the blue squares. Are there more shiny or more rocks that are not shiny?"

Use these squares to teach upper case letters and numbers. The carpet is made of individual 12" foam squares. The numbers and letters pop out and it has borders. It measures 6' x 6'.
The letters and numbers can be rearranged, children can hold the letters and learn tactually. Some educators do not like the clean up aspect of these mats as spills can get into the cracks between the letters.
